Hyuna: Hyunseung oppa is a friend to me. He's always kind and give me encouragement.

Hyunseung: Honestly, Hyuna and I weren't close before TM. When President-nim asked us to be a group, we didn't know how it will turn out.

Hyunseung: She's already good in dancing and I admire her for being so talented. Having someone so capable beside me makes me feel secured.

Hyunseung: Sometime around Christmas... I just walked around here and there and at some underground shopping area, there was a small sparkling tree and four bears sitting on a bench piled up with snow. I bought the doll and went to the place where my deceased father is. I remember that. My dream Christmas is one where I'm with boisterous crowd and neon signs singing carols. That kind of Christmas seems like one that will make you happy fully. But in reality, it's not something I can do, and it's just too bad.

Q. What kind of partner are you for each other? 

Hyunseung: Honestly, before Trouble Maker, I wasn't close with Hyuna. When CEO suggested this unit group, I could not imagine us doing something together. Since I couldn't imagine, I didn't really want to do it, and it was a male female group so it was more unfamiliar. Whenever I am worrying about the music video or the visual concept and deeply in thoughts alone, Hyuna becomes a very good adviser. There are times when she says the right thing and my thoughts change. But I say "Well if you think that way, I'll just lose." (laugh) She's very good at dancing, singing, anything, and I admire that. A professional is always next to me (he's talking about Hyuna), so I feel like she's reliable. 

Hyuna: I think of 4minute members as 'Another me' so I think of them as family and I feel like Hyunseung oppa is my friend. That nice friend next to me that says encouraging words. When I'm not in a good mood, he purposely tries to set the atmosphere, when I'm nervous thinking that I won't be able to show my talent, he cheers me up. While preparing this album, we got to know know more about each other and became close. When oppa brings up a Cover idea, or when I watch him do vocal recordings, I learned "Ah, I can pay attention to this more". I learned the things that I've never felt while promoting as 4minute for 5 years. Since I'm in a girl group, boy groups think differently so I think that's really cool. Anyways, I think I have the good fortune to have kind friends.

The Star Interview [Endless positivity – Son Dongwoon]

TS: How does it feel like doing activities as a group in such a long time?
Dongwoon: I cannot stop smiling. Even though it’s tiring, everyone’s spirit/vigor is overwhelming just like our debut period so it is fun. On the other hand, I’m sorry seeing the looks of our fans who like us and only get to see our stage after a year.

TS: I know why you are so positive. I’ve received some information, it said you’re working on some six-week miracle project?
DW: It is to transmit positive (energy) to a (designated) member each week. We get to sleep only one to two hours while doing activities, so how tiring is that. Isn’t it that if there is at least one person that positive energy is transmitted to, somehow/at sometime the members, and the staff as well, will be able to become happier. When you think positively, the color of your face starts changing. If through the strength of positivity, it will be good if after six weeks everyone became happier.

TS: At the showcase this time round, the members chose Dongwoon as the member who grew the most. Personally, in what aspect do you think you received the highest marks in?
DW: The greatest opportunity for me to grow, I think it was the musical. While doing the musical, I think I found my path in singing. There is no better practice than the actual (show/deal). Originally, when I sing, my condition is very inconsistent, but these days, the gap between times when I do well and when I can’t do well, it is closing up. I’m not trying to show off, but I have found my own way. (laughs)

TS: That’s so on stage; have you found your composure and stability in daily life too?
DW: There is no spare time, but I’m working hard to find spare time. After all, even if I’m impatient, the problems will not just resolve sooner. Whether I’m impatient or mellow, the world just spins as it is. If that’s the case, then I will be resenting the world which isn’t changing. I intend to spend my time well within the 24 hours given.

TS: So when you really have spare time, what do you do? 
DW: When I have some spare time, I practice the piano. Whether it is pop song or otherwise, I don’t differentiate; I print the scores of the songs I like and when there’s time, I play them.

TS: You’ve lots of skills. This time round on “Happy Together”, you showed us Namshin Noodles is creative too. Usually do you like shocking adventures?
DW: Not shocking/unconventional, though I don’t like safe things either. Honestly, when working in the entertainment circle environment, one who likes safe things will not be able to endure it. I don’t think of it that way, but when I’m with my normal friends, I hear many comments that I’m unusual.

TS: After returning to school, seems like you’ve heard quite a bit. This term, since you’re doing activities, you probably can’t attend school much. 
DW: It is quite a worry. There are many overseas activities. Somehow it will work out right. As long as there is positive strength.

TS: It was interesting hearing about the episode that fans only wanted your schoolmate, Lee Jongsuk’s, signature. 
DW: Eh.. but that’s a sad episode.

TS: Hahah. Having watched an old show program of you saying that you’ve the most celebrity-like mask, I thought of you as one who had many talents; now seeing you in person, you’ve lots of wit. But do you really think of yourself as “Namshin”? (i.e. male god)
DW: Yes. What do you think after seeing all six of us in person? My thought is right, right? Hahah.

TS: It will be good if there are more chances for you to show your talents. 
DW: If there are more chances, I’ll do it. If there are none, I’ll collect them and show them all at once the next chance. I’m not impatient. I’m younger than the others by two years, so I have more time in that sense. My solo activities will become important when I turn 30 or 40, but if I were to choose between solo or group, I want to choose one that gives everyone strength. Even though that, I’m not one without greed.

TS: So, to close off, if you could press “LIKE” for a member?
DW: Doojoonie-hyung. He is one who lowers himself and respects the other party. Even if he gives advice, (he does it in a way) I can understand and accept; he takes on all the difficult tasks as well. When everyone is exhausted, he doesn’t show it and finishes off his task. In such aspects as a leader, he does it hundreds, thousands, of times.

The Star Interview [Bright sun – Lee Kikwang]

TS: This is the second time I’m seeing Kikwang. Previously, to cover for Hot Brothers, I’ve visited the filming site.
Kikwang: Ah, that time it was really during the early days of debut. I was a baby who didn’t know anything. It was a period when everything was (new and) sparkly. Now, time has flown past, and I’ve grown a little in height? (laughs) Time has fleeted, have I changed?

TS: That time, the PD gave compliments to Kikwang. You worked hard, and more than anything, you did well without being discouraged. Between “you’ve worked hard” and “you’ve done well” which makes your mood better? 
KK: It would be good if there were both, but it’s hard to have both, in time to come, to have worked hard will help me. People who do well can become arrogant and not work for it, and those who work hard will work for it until whenever, so the latter seems to be a better/cooler person.

TS: These days, you guys have been receiving #1 during the music programs right? Congratulations. Actually, I was thinking you guys have reached the ranks of the stars who can be hurt if you do not reach #1.
KK: There’s no such think as being #1 all your life. If there is a winner, there will be a loser. As the years accumulate, please advise us that “Do not think of the current situation as a one you’ve done well and will continue on, the current popularity can also be at its best” from our surroundings. We will take on a more modest manner.

TS: Then, where will BEAST’s peak be?
KK: I think there are lots of steps/stairs left for BEAST. We can still go higher.

TS: It’s good to see the greed to succeed. Then your character fits with your current style well. Especially your red hair – passion, isn’t it a symbol of fervor? 
KK: Rather than being silent and fixed to a place, I like to move about. A lifely and bright character.

TS: How are you when you are in love? Are you the type who constantly goes along with your girlfriend, or respect each other’s individual time? 
KK: I think I’m half half. The girlfriend will have her own thoughts and I will have mine too. I don’t have the thoughts of both of us always having to see the same things. By tuning and adjusting for each other, that’s what truly a relationship/dating should be isn’t it. If you bend towards one side too much, you’ll get sick of it soon and may break up. It’s good to do everything in moderation.

TS: You said your final goal is to be someone like Ronaldo? 
KK: I really like soccer a lot. I like to exercise, so if I didn’t become a singer, I would have become an athlete. Ronaldo or Messi, they are all-rounded players. This can sound stale but my dream is to become someone who so good at everything. These days, idols act, do musicals, go on varieties etc. and they are active on various platforms. I want to become someone who is able to do well at anything.

TS: Then, in what aspects do you need to strengthen?
KK: I’ll need to strengthen everything. Singing, dance, face, acting, variety etc. These days I’ve started learning composition. I wonder if I’ll be able to let the fans listen to them soon.

TS: You’re in the 5th year since your debut. Just like the concept of the shoot today – relaxed composure – it’s a time you can feel this (relaxed composure) but similar it can be poison. Commonly referred to as the 5-year jinx of idol groups. Which side is Kikwang on? 
KK: There are such days recently. As for me, I think that as long as it is not overdone, composure/free time is needed. Humans need rest and work as well. To a certain extend, get some rest, find inner peace/stability and after that get engaged on stage – this will increase efficiency.

TS: How about these days without rest?
KK: Now is the period to run/move forward. When we are not doing activities, I received vocal lessons, learnt to compose and exercised. To me, that’s getting rest.

TS: Now if you were to press the “LIKE” button for a member?
KK: Doojoon. I don’t know his inner (self/being). He’s not the kind who has leadership, but he’s like a real leader. He knows how to talk/persuade people around. He’s a good kid.

TS: Is there anything else you want to say?
KK: I think I’m fine here. Everything in moderation.

The Star Interview [Upgrade – Yang Yoseob]

TS: These days, other than Beast’s skills, there are compliments on Beast’s looks. In this aspect, especially Yoseob has contributed.
Yoseob: Actually, it wasn’t done with the intention to lose weight. This is the positive outcome after starting on boxing as a hobby. Thanks for looking at this in good light. Looking at it now, I don’t want to go back to how I was in the past.

TS: Sometime ago at the Beautiful Show, you showed a man’s tears. Usually are you the kind who occasionally shows tears?
YS: This is embarrassing. On normal days, when I feel like crying, I cry. However, I usually don’t cry on stage. Because we need to sing the encore song. If I cry, I can’t sing. I really wanted to control (from crying), but Hyunseung said to the fans “Why are you guys about to cry?”, and talked about things that were not in the scripts. Because of that, I burst (out crying). It ended up I couldn’t sing the next song properly. It was really embarrassing and that ended up in many news articles.

TS: Who is the most sensitive member in BEAST?
YS: Dongwoon. Sometimes, when you look at Dongwoon, you get this feeling mostly – he is really frank about what he feels, and he expresses himself well to the hyungs and tries not to suppress his feelings – from the hyung’s point of view, you can see that. Rather than saying his emotions fluctuate, he is one who thinks a lot.

TS: In various articles, you say that your dream is to a world star – is that claim still valid?
YS: Ah, that. At that time, it was said without much thought but I’m fulfilling it little by little so I’m feeling good. It’s amazing, but once I say it, it comes true. “What’s your next goal? What’s your next dream” such questions come up every now and then. When that occurs, “To get #1 on the broadcasts”, “To do solo concert”, “To do world tour” – I answered with these and they really came true. It’s amazing, and I’m thankful for it, and also have the thoughts that I need to be careful with my words.

TS: You have to say something today too. 
YS: A positive goal will be (to become) world star. We are not yet world stars. There are many countries we need to go to, and there are many fans who we’ve yet to meet. As we accumulate years of experience, it will come true, won’t it.

TS: Here, we can’t leave out the talk about love, right? When in love/relationship, do you spend more time together, or spend more time individually?
YS: It’s been a long time since I’ve been in a relationship so it is blurry/muddled, but I think I’m more of a shadow-type existence. On individual privacy, if you overdo it, you will feel negligent of each other. It will be good if there was the feeling like you’re next to each other all the time.

TS: If you had to choose between love and friendship?
YS: If I fell in love I don’t know how it will change, but since it is blurry, (I’ll choose) friendship. Hahah. After having met the Beast members, I’ve change lots. My emotions fluctuate. However when it was going tough for me, it was the Beast members who got a grip/held on me like it was a given. On the other hand, as for love, you’ll have to read the atmosphere, don’t you? You want to look suave to the other party and hide weakness. But towards the members, there’s no such need to. Friends are what will remain comfortable and after a long time.

TS: The last official question, if you were to press the “LIKE” button for a member now?
YS: Junhyung. Junhyung did the full producing for this album so it was probably really tough. He would have worried about what to do if the remaining members would like the songs he made. Although that, it would be good if perked up because he was doing something really cool/suave. It would be good if he didn’t receive this kind of stress while making music.

TS: Junhyung really did make such statement, and there is actually someone who mentioned it. This looks like teamwork. 
YS: Ah, is that so? Junhyung has this habit. Junhyung plays a little of the songs he has made in the car. When the reaction comes along, (we) move/go ahead with it. Junhyung has a delicate heart, he won’t be able to endure spiteful remarks; even if he is directing he won’t be able to speak bitter words. Junhyung would have been feeling like he was floating out at sea when he was preparing. Next time when there is a chance, it will be good if I’ll be able to offer some help. This time round, I did help in recording the various guides but wonder if that helped in the end.

The Star Interview [Music Monster – Yong Junhyung]

TS: Today, the last episode of MONSTAR airs, but you aren’t able to watch it. What to do (about that)?
Junhyung: I’ll just watch it sometime later. Hahah.

TS: It’s your first drama, but it’s a hit. I’ve watched well, the kiss scene which became a hot topic.
JH: Ah, the kiss scene… It’s done right from the first drama. (laughs) I discussed lots with the director beforehand so it ended well without any glitches/episodes. Of course there were NGs. As the we moved closer to each others’ faces, there was much cold sweat.

TS: From the viewer’s point of view, it was fun, with the fresh love line with Min Sei. In reality, what is your type when it comes to love?
I’m the type who tries as much as possible to be together (with th other party) but even though that I’m not one who disregards everything else. So when I’m in a relationship, I become more diligent. If there’s something to do, I do it in advance.

TS: Seems like you adjust well between work and love.
JH: I try to balance well but since I’m human too, I think I tend to be biased to one side. Honestly, if I said I could control that (balance) well, it in itself will be a lie, isn’t it?

TS: Well, it lacks a human touch. There needs to be the taste of diving straight into love.
JH: Yes of course. Hahah.

TS: These few months of filming, album preparations, album activities, you’re busy, so there will be no personal free time right?
JH: Yes. For the past three months, it has the tightest schedules since my debut. After ending filming, I go to the production studio; after making productions, I go home, wash up and head to the filming location. Sleep is only for a short period while commuting (to and fro) – such repeated (sleep) pattern is really tough on the body. Especially during the final month, it was like crisis. I was really worried, if I wasn’t able to do well on both ends, but since I’ve accomplished both, I think it’s good that I’ve done it.

TS: Even though you were so busy, you managed to produce this album entirely. Isn’t there any point that you’ve felt the pain of composition?
JH: How can there not be. When there are no thoughts, there is even a time I couldn’t write a single song a month. During that time, I have fun. I don’t know if the method I found is good, but I go out to meet the people I’m close to and have a drink, and at some point, we let go and have fun. After that, the next day I have a good rest and the following day when I recover, I go to the production studio and the ideas will flow. It’s amazing. Humans can’t only go on packing in/filling up, definitely.

TS: What preparations are you making for the concert in Busan in September?
JH: As for Busan, since it is a concert, it is meaningful to us. The fans from the other cities continually come to Seoul – it is not an easy matter. This time round, we will head over and put on a suave performance, and make more communication with the Busan fans. Busan people are also very warm. I’m looking forward to it.

TS: If you were to press “LIKE” button for a member now, who will you give it to and why?
JH: Doojoon. Verbally, “as a leader, I don’t have to do much” is what he says, but that’s not it – and you can see it from the sidelines. Even if there is a problem, Doojoon’s character is cheerful so he doesn’t show it and forgets about it shortly. When we see such a side, I want to supplement (him with) energy but I don’t really know how to do it.

TS: Ey, you just have to do what you’re doing now. These days, the general trend (i.e. hot topic) of Beast is Junhyung. 
JH: I’m thankful if you think of it like that. Actually, the term “general trend” does not come across to reach me well. If in the case (I) am the general trend, then I haven’t been able to feel it through any moment yet. I couldn’t even rest a week after the end of the drama. I think it will have to be until October that I’ll be able to calmly take a break and go on a holiday for just a week.

TS: That’s the evidence of being the general trend. 
JH: That too depends on the album – if we do well then I’ll be able to go; otherwise I won’t be able to because of the guilt. (laughs) Having done the producing for this album, I have nightmares every night. Rather than hearing comments like “You’re just so-so”, I’m the most afraid of words like “Because of you, we’re done for.”. Because when I hear words like that, the motivation to write songs disappear. Fortunately, people have received (the album) well and (I gain) support through it, and saving the songs for the next production.

The Star Interview [Between chic and prickly – Jang Hyunseung]

TS: You say you read magazines frequently usually? 
Hyunseung: Yes. But these days we are doing activities so I don’t read it much. Rather than reading the articles, it is to view the styles.

TS: How’s the style worn today? 
HS: Isn’t it the style that females like? Clean cut university student feel? There are many who like such style. These days I’m fixed on leathers. If you look into collections, leather jacket, leather pants, leather hats etc. – many items that make use of leathers have been appearing frequently these days.

TS: Sometime ago, for the #1 place performance, you used the streamers and put it on your face like tears – that was unexpected. I thought you were only chic-style.
HS: It isn’t in my original character, but it just happened on that day. The other members do everything else, so usually I’m the kind who just stays silent.

TS: If you stay silent, don’t you get misunderstood? Should I say it’s somewhere between chic and being prickly?
HS: Ah~ that’s right. “Are you in a bad mood?” I hear these words occasionally. But ever since I’ve debut, I haven’t heard these much. Or rather, (maybe they thought) what’s the use of telling me such things. (laughs)

TS: You’re frank. How is it like doing activities as a full group? 
HS: It’s a different feeling from Troublemaker period. A little different. Solo activities are in their own way, and group activities are intresting in the way it is interesting as group activities. Honestly, I’m of the view that it is important that the members have their solo activities. When there is a need/situation for all six to come together, we show the appeal of our team; after that, we show each of our charms so that we are able to raise the awareness amongst the general public. It will be good if all six of us shine in the different genres. After that when we come together again, we will complete an even more suave/cool picture.

TS: It could be an image that has been strengthened since your solo activities, or otherwise it could be your original charm, but Hyunseung is symbolised by being sexy. How is that?
HS: I think it’s good. I think that on stage, whether it is sexy or charismatic, you need to have something that brings you out pointedly. Honestly, for me in the past, I don’t think you’re able to find anything sexy. But having done sexy (style), I’ve gotten better at it. (laughs)

TS: Especially this time round, for the platinum blond hair, I think that contributed. The reaction was good. 
HS: I liked the red series as well. Rather than a safe hair color, I like outstanding colors.

TS: Originally during psychological tests, it is said that those who like fancy things, there is the urge to express something from the inner (self). 
HS: I just think of it simply as, I’m a star standing in front of the general public. A star cannot be plain/simple.

TS: Oh, I see. Rather than imitating a psychologist, shall we talk about relationships/love, in which the fans are the most concerned about? 
HS: Hahah. You can dig further regarding me.

TS: Just like the title song “Shadow”, are you the kind to become the shadow in a relationship/when in love?
HS: There should be several meanings when you say you become the shadow. Firstly, as for the shadow that is most commonly referred to, I’ve never been (perceived as) that. As much as we liked each other, that was just nice.

TS: Then you wouldn’t have had much quarrels/fights. 
HS: I think of it this way. In order to go on for a long time, you need to receive blessings from your surroundings. Because of love, you aren’t able to take care of your surrounds, then that love will not go smoothly. At least to do it for the ones you love, isn’t that better?

TS: For the upcoming September Busan concert, what are your thoughts?
HS: I intend to do it as well as we had in Seoul. Because (I) always do the best (I can). We are preparing this and that in our own ways.

TS: Now, if you were to press the “LIKE” button for a member, who will it be and why?
HS: Yoseob. Yoseob tried to break his limits this time round and worked hard for it. Honestly, for the past period, he was only cute. Hahah. If it was the same (look) everyday, he will only be so-so; as his co-worker, to see such desire to change, it’s good. I want to have it recognised.

The Star Interview [Silent and strong - Yoon Doojoon]

The STAR: Are we able to see the “Legendary Pose” that has caused a hoo-ha on the internet today?
Doojoon: Ah, that. The period during which the pictures were taken was when (I was) filming for a sitcom, so after changing into outfits for more than ten over times a day, the endorsement pictures all turned out with the same pose.

TS: It isn’t because you were shy/embarrassed? 
DJ: If there was too much shyness, I wouldn’t be able to strike that post. Even though I said that, it isn’t that I’m not embarrassed. If we are close, I talk really well too.

TS: Today’s concept for BEAST - comfortable yet smeared with some sensitivity. Being in the 5th year since your debut, there’s this sense of stability and composure of your stage. 
DJ: That’s a relief. We are still as nervous (as before). As a singer, our first priority will be our (performance) stages so we pay the most attention to that.

TS: What are your thoughts about standing on stage as a full group? 
DJ: As everyone does the monitoring (of the performance) together, it feels good. It feels new/refreshing and (somewhat) strange/foreign. I frequently think of the older/past days too. Comparing to when we first debut, much has change, but fortunately our mental attitude has returned to that point, so the mood is good. I want to be able to carry on activities together for a long, long time.

TS: Even though having carried out individual activities, compared to the trend of idol groups who release new songs every three to six months, this is something different. 
DJ: We wanted to comeback sooner too, but the period did not fit right. Honestly, a period of one year, it is a really long break period in terms of comeback cycle in the entertainment/singers’ scene these days. It was not done on purpose.

TS: This time round, the title song is “Shadow”. When you are in a relationship, are you the type who behaves like a shadow, or do you respect each other’s individual time?
DJ: I think it differs from time to time. Aren’t guys all like that? Except for stalkers.

TS: Hmm, seems like you sound more of the latter. (laughs) Then, if you were to choose between love and friendship?
DJ: I think (I’m) someone closer to friendship. Of course, there are many couples who are in love for a long time, if you love someone for a long time, that’s good. But I think that there is an expiration date when it comes to an emotion such as love. Feelings change. Love does change to affection as well. How many are there on this earth who loves like a fire? So I will choose friendship which has a higher chance of not changing over a long period of time.

TS: So, what is the shelf life of love? 
DJ: Well, that depends right? For me, it differs depending on the other party. It could also be for life. Of course, if it is for a lifetime, then nothing can be better than that.

TS: Now that you’re in your mid 20s, before your 20s past, what do you definitely want to try? 
DJ: Before I am past my 20s, I want to work harder at whatever I am currently doing. Ah, I didn’t know that time will past so quickly. I am young now, but when you visit the broadcasting stations, there are really lots of young/younger people. I am just me, and yet time continues flows on.

TS: Sometime ago, you sent the members a message “When going on chariot, think about the person holding the chariot on his shoulders before thinking about how high the chariot is.” right? Such a leader-like heart. 
DJ: My mom wrote that in a letter (to me), and it is good, so I spread it to the members. After that, the members kept teasing me, saying why did I compare the staff to the chariot. (laughs) Our members are definitely 100-points/full-marks friends/people. Everyone is doing really well.

TS: Aren’t you too generous? Especially in what aspect?
DJ: First, when we release an album, there are many aspects (we feel) lacking in. We can hold to complaints, but all our members know and do their share well. Whether it is the performance stage or fanservice etc., (everyone) knows and does well within their individual share. I can ride on the back, just like that.

TS: Lastly, if you could press “LIKE” on a member’s SNS to support him, who will you do it for and why do you want to do it?

My name is Yang Yoseob.

Born January 5, 1990. I have one older sister. You can think of her as me but with a smaller face, smaller body, and long hair. The truth is that my mom and dad look similar too. If the four of us stand together, even from far away people say, "Oh, they're a family!"

I first started practicing singing after I listened to Brian McKnight's music. After that, I listened to a lot of music of a similar style, but I thought about it and realized that I couldn't be biased towards certain music. So I also started listening to dance music and rock.

I was in a band when I was in high school. At that time, we performed a lot of hard rock and metal, but the truth is that I wanted to try modern rock. But my sunbaes said that it would ruin the mood and forbade it. Even now, modern rock is a genre that personally, I really want to try.

Originally, I'm artistically or musically talented because I take after my dad. I couldn't dance. Because I've practiced, I've reached this level with difficulty. (Doojoon: Yoseob learns the fastest now. Junhyung: He can even make choreography by himself.)

My hairstyle changed dramatically, but I think it was a successful transformation, so I like it. It's to the point where the members look at old pictures of me with black hair and think I look weird. They keep telling me to bleach it, but it's a bit sad. Since I'm Asian, black hair keeps growing...

On KBS <Star Golden Bell>,the PD said I looked like a shihtzu and my mom was really happy when she saw that episode since I received one more camera shot. She complimented me on tying my hair.

Honestly, my manly/sexy side is disappearing and I used to not like being called cute. I would just throw on clothes to wear carelessly, and I couldn't act silly. But now that's become a part of my color, so I accept it and I even mess around more enthusiastically.

Maybe it's because started filming videos a long time ago, but when people ask me to perform, instead of being embarrassed I try to make something good out of it. Even in front of a blue screen, I'm not embarrassed. If you type in "Yang Yoseob" in a search engine, a lot of videos come out. Look them up when you're bored!

When Dongwoon is only with us, he's really fun, to the point where, at first, MTV <B2ST> PD said that Dongwoon and I had the biggest chance to succeed in entertainment. But as soon as the camera gets in his face, he's not fun anymore. So he's slowly becoming more awkward, his screen time is shrinking and the kid seems like he's going to develop a speech impediment, plus he's aging more and more. Hahaha.

Doojoon has a strong sense of responsibility and even if something is taken care of, he has to check the process himself before he's satisfied. So if Doojoon wasn't here [in BEAST] we probably wouldn't have been able to do interviews, music programs, anything. You see, Doojoon wakes up first and wakes up all the other members.

At home, the members like to play games like "Winning Eleven," but at those times, everyone's desire to win is no joke. Kikwang kept saying that he would cancel the patbingsoo (TN: a shaved ice dessert) debt he owed Doojoon after he lost a bet, but eventually he had to buy patbingsoo for everyone in the house. At that time, I think he used more than 20,000 won (TN: approx. $20). Hahaha.

BEAST, “The bitter taste of failure became the irony of fate”

Leader Yoon Doo Joon (20) starred in Mnet’s “Hot Blood.”

“In 2007, just 3 months after being a trainee at JYP, I ended up starring [in Hot Blood]. Looking back, I was so cocky to point where now I think, “Why was I like that?” I didn’t have any sincere desire to succeed as a singer. I’m embarrassed.”
Jang Hyun Seung (20) starred in MTV’s “Big Bang” and experienced the bitter taste of failure, but eventually his failure became an opportunity to debut as BEAST.

“In 2004 when I was in 8th grade (tn: freshman in the States), I participated in YG auditions. I was eliminated in the 3rd round. I passed through the 1st and 2nd rounds, and they even called my parents in, so I thought “I’ll make it,” but surprise. I felt like it was such a waste, and I was frustrated, so I spontaneously went to see YG. Now that I think about it, it was a really bold move. (Laughs) Pres. Yang Hyun Suk saw how earnest I was and accepted me as a trainee.”
Jang Hyun Seung, who appeared on ‘Big Bang’ after 1 year and 4 months as a trainee, was jealous of Daesung, Top, and Seungri who were chosen to be in Big Bang after 6 months as trainees. But now a BEAST member, Hyunseung has matured.

“I believe it was all for the better. I called it the irony of fate and practiced and worked harder. My participation in ‘Big Bang’ was an important experience, and if it weren’t for that show, I wouldn’t be here. Before our ‘Inkigayo’ performance, I met Jiyong hyung (GD) for the first time in 3 years. He greeted me so warmly and treated me so well that I almost cried. You see, he was my closest hyung during my trainee days.”
Wearing a hat with an interesting design which he said he bought in Japan, Yang Yoseub’s (19) fist-sized face in particular is impressive. The jealousy of the members is impressive too.

“When we go back to our apartment, we’re all busy washing up and getting ready for bed, but Yoseub always goes somewhere. He buys cup ramen and comes in. We’re all afraid that our faces will swell so we’re restraining ourselves, but Yoseub makes slurping sounds and eats enthusiastically.” (Jun Hyung)

Yang Yoseub was a JYP trainee. But after receiving a bad grade from practice reviews, he left. “After that, I performed weekly in an Apgujeong club. At that time, stage experiences became my blood and skin. Ki Kwang and I are (상계 sorry didn't know how to say that in English >< basically means they were in debt to each other) and former classmates, but because of him I was able to join BEAST. And I’m the one who called Hyunseung into BEAST. We met as dancers for a show performance team, and I had a good feeling about Hyunseung.”

Lee Ki Kwang (20) performed as AJ, the “Middle (School) High (School) Rookie.” Right now, he stars as Kang Sae Ho in MBC’s “High kick through the Roof” and is performing simultaneously as an actor and singer.

“When I debuted as AJ, I was very lonely. Standing on stage by myself was stressful, and being along during interviews was hard. Being a member of BEAST, I feel really supported and happy. The truth is, even when I was AJ, the members of BEAST helped out behind the stage. At that time, they were a big source of strength, but every day I thought about how I wanted to sing with them.” 
Rapper Yong Jun Hyung (20) showed strong passion while making raps for the album’s songs. “While composing with hyungs, I tried writing my rap part myself. They said ‘Try it’ and gave me the opportunity, so I ended up partaking in the making of the album.”

Youngest Son Dong Woon (18) who is called “The Rising Power in Entertainment” by the other members is charming with a slightly blank look on his face. According the members’ ‘revelations’, he’s strong.

“Among all of us, he’s the best at foreign languages. He can speak English and Chinese.” (Yoseub)
“Dongwoon’s dad is a professor at Chungjoo University, and he personally left an encouraging message on our fan café.” (Jun Hyung)

The BEAST members’ eyes shine with ambition the desire to last for a long time. “We want to win the rookie award, and we always want to become a representative group like god or Shinhwa. We will work hard.”

#1. MONEY
Doojoon: Very important in a capitalist society. I feel bitter knowing that it will disappear once you meet your spouse, but I think that I should work hard to make it.
Yoseob: My mother always says, "when you chase money, it's bound to run away from you. Money should be the last thing on your mind when you are working." I try to enjoy anything I do.
Hyunseung: I try to spend less of it as much as possible, but I tend to be a giving person so I'm not stingy about it. But then again, I didn't even ride the taxi before debut… I think I need to stop buying clothes too.
Junhyung: Both good and bad.
Kikwang: Beautiful when you just have enough of it.
Dongwoon: It's difficult without it, but also difficult if you have it.

#2. LOVE
Doojoon: Work comes first. Later when I have more free time and my mind feels settled. When I cam more mature.
Yoseob: Good to have, but if you don't have it, you can live without it. I still don't know what is what and I forgot what it felt like because I loved a long time ago. I think I'm fine without it.
Hyunseung: Necessary in the world even if I don't particularly have it.
Junhyung: No comment.
Kikwang: Without it, I can't see anything. However, I'm really busy with promotions so it's really hard to meet someone who you really love. At the same time, I think it would be nice to have someone who you really love to think about while you are busy chasing work.
Dongwoon: Option.

#3. AMBITION
Doojoon: As long as I am invested in this job, I don't want it to end sadly.
Yoseob: Ambition is for me to fulfill tomorrow. There is a possibility that I won't be able to fulfill my ambitions in a few years later right?!
Hyunseung: Something I have in my heart.
Junhyung: I still haven't shown half of my talents. I believe that success will come after I reveal everything I have. 
Kikwang: I still have a lot of greed and ambitions. I believe that it's better to have bigger and more ambitions.
Dongwoon: I want to be recognized as the best after I do my best.

#4. FRIENDSHIP
Doojoon: My members fill the void of my friendships.
Yoseob: A little stronger than love.
Hyunseung: As important as love between a male and female.
Junhyung: I realize that it is really important these days.
Kikwang: I agree with the saying that you have lived a successful life if you have a friend who will genuinely cry for you at your grave. I'm happy that I have the members of our group and special friends outside of that.
Dongwoon: Your companion for life. I have exactly 3 friends. Ah! 4 friends. No, it's 3.5 friends. I don't know about one person. Because our group members are all hyungs (older), they give me strength when I need a friend to talk to.

#5. STYLE
Doojoon: One of the necessities of life. Something that ends up becoming basic. I personally like to dress casually so I'm glad that other members dress well. I think that you should dress to match the occasion.
Yoseob: I don't think I can talk about style! I try to dress so that I don't stand out wherever I go.
Hyunseung: Looking as if you didn't dress up. It doesn't look good if you are over dressed.
Junhyung: Something I have my personal opinions on. People can tell me that they don't like it, but if I like it, I just wear it. Of course, this job requires me to look presentable to the public, but I don't have plans of matching everyone else. I like it if I like it. I don't think I will change that.
Kikwang: I think that stars should look good. But then again, comfortable clothes are the best when you are tired.
Dongwoon: Something that helps you express your own feelings.

#6. LEISURE
Doojoon: I am in the star soccer team F.C ManU which is centered around idol artists.
Yoseob: I rode my bike from Jamwon Jigu to Banpo Bridge yesterday. It felt nice.
Hyunseung: Games. No comment on what game it is.
Junhyung: I don't have hobbies. If I have some free time, I'm always at the recording studio, but that doesn't mean I continuously work on music. There are game consoles and sofas so I play and rest there. Any leftover time I have, I work hard on songs that might not even come out to the public.
Kikwang: Working out. I like sports I can sweat a lot in, like soccer.
Dongwoon: Figures and lego.

#7. CHALLENGE
Doojoon: Owning a restaurant.
Yoseob: I stick to reality. I enjoy possible challenges.
Hyunseung: In 2013, I wish that each BEAST member is able to challenge something in front of their eyes. That is one way that BEAST can fly higher. 
Junhyung: To keep doing what I am doing.
Kikwang: I took a step in composing.
Dongwoon: Radio DJ. I also want to make a band with my own name and show off an acoustic feel performance at a small concert stage.

#8. IMAGE
Doojoon: It's important because it's our job, but I'm not sure.
Yoseob: I don't care too much about it. I don't even put on that much cologne. 
Hyunseung: Beside the fact whether you are good looking or not, I think your impression and charms are more important.
Junhyung: I don't care about how I look. There are times when you do look good in videos and pictures, but if you look at all of that, you will just end up getting stressed.
Kikwang: Important for a guy. Your first impression is important when you meet someone, but I believe that you should focus on your image inside as much as your image outside. Someone with a good image will have an advantage to success.
Dongwoon: I think your image should come second. Your inner beauty in more important. I much prefer someone who I can connect to even though she might not be very beautiful.

#9. FAMILY
Doojoon: I feel sorry. I'm always lacking. I exist because I have my family.
Yoseob: 0th place. They are more precious than me and they always come first.
Hyunseung: I can't help but to cry when I think about them.
Junhyung: I am always sorry because I am not expressive. I tend to talk around something to them when I am facing hard times.
Kikwang: I always miss them and they are always warm.
Dongwoon: I am the most thankful for them, but I feel sorry. I always regret when I look back on the fights at home.

#10. HUMOR
Doojoon: Important. From all your emotions, laughing is the best.
Yoseob: You must NEVER emphasize it. Leader Doojoon tends to emphasize it on us. That is like digging his own grave.
Hyunseung: Doojoon thinks that he is the funniest in the world
Junhyung: To be honest, once I open my mouth, I am the funniest. Just that things I say can't be broadcast.
Kikwang: Hard. I'm the type of them who will laugh at the story someone tells me rather than make someone laugh.
Dongwoon: It's all of me. To be honest, I think that I can make an awkward moment more comfortable.

#11. BETTING
Doojoon: I like things that stimulate my competitive side.
Yoseob: Doesn't match me. I always lose when I do bet. Even in rock, paper, scissors.
Hyunseung: Ambushing.
Junhyung: I really like it. People around me say that I have a gambling side in me. I am willing to go until I win. Even though I always lose.
Kikwang: I like it. I get competitive when it comes to sports or games.
Dongwoon: I play games instead of betting. That Anipang game. 

#12. ALCOHOL
Doojoon: I can't drink it well.
Yoseob: Not close. I can't drink. Really.
Hyunseung: I never went to it first.
Junhyung: I like it. I enjoy sake. I drink soju at a roadside restaurant with a friend. I like wine too. I like the fact that you can talk about things you don't talk about usually. I don't like chaotic places and I enjoy it when it's somewhere I can talk quietly with someone else.
Kikwang: Not to the point of being wasted, but I like the buzzed feeling.
Dongwoon: I like drinking after a concert with everyone. Otherwise, I don't drink often.

#13. CARS
Doojoon: Not interested.
Yoseob: I used to like the convertible style until last year, but now I like the SUV style. 
Hyunseung: Right now I want to ride a typical car, but later I want to ride a fancy sports car once.
Junhyung: I'm interested in it. If someone tells me that the car that I'm driving is typical, then I want to change it. I'm the style to get easily tired of it. I'm looking into a different car right now. I don't know if I would change it though.
Kikwang: I don't know the cars by model names, but if it looks nice I'm interested. My dream car is an Audi A7. 
Dongwoon: I am really interested in it. Before I get any older, I want to drive a convertible without a top.

#14. WATCH
Doojoon: Not interested.
Yoseob: Comfortable to wear.
Hyunseung: I don't have any watches. I'm more interested in bracelets.
Junhyung: I started gaining interest. I'm not wearing one right now, but I'm looking into it.
Kikwang: I don't have any interest in watches right now, but someone told me that a guy is defined by a suit and a watch. There is a watch I want though. It's a collaboration watch from Rolex and Chrome Hearts.
Dongwoon: I heard that men wear expensive belts and watches. I don't really know at this point. I still like toys right now.

#15. MUSCLE
Doojoon: Men need muscles, but it's really hard to work out like Kikwang.
Yoseob: You only need the muscles you use in life.
Hyunseung: I just wish that I had the small defined muscles that women like. 
Junhyung: I don't need muscles. Not my style. I like lean figures. I just don't like working out, but that doesn't mean I can't.
Kikwang: I prefer slim and hard muscles than having buff muscles. I work out 3~4 days in a week and when I decide to make muscles, I stay away from flour and too much liquid. 
Dongwoon: Muscles are there to please the man. There is a saying, "Grow a brain rather than muscles." I think my brain to muscle ratio is 7:3.

#16. MUSIC
Doojoon: I enjoyed music since I was in high school.
Yoseob: I enjoy many genres. I like hard rock and heavy metal that I enjoyed in high school.
Hyunseung: Something I need to listen to more of in the future. 
Junhyung: Music that I like is hip hop. Beenzino, The Quiett, Supreme Team, Verbal Jint are some of the Korean groups I like. I'm amazed by their expressions.
Kikwang: I like KPOP, but I have enjoyed R&B since I was little. And I like hip hop. I enjoy crazy and chaotic dance songs too. 
Dongwoon: Something that I can learn more about and never reach the end. I think it's my homework for the rest of my life.
